You Can Bake Like a Vegan Diva, too!
Have you ever wondered how Vegan Divas NYC creates such delicious vegan confections that meet all of the dietary guidelines of the vegan lifestyle?
While it may seem complicated, the effort you make in your kitchen will pay off in delicious, cruelty-free desserts and treats for you and your family and friends to enjoy. That is why I wanted to share my skills, knowledge and lifestyle with everyone, so I put my recipes, tips and inspiration together and created the Vegan Divas Cookbook: Delicious Desserts, Plates, and Treats from the Famed New York City Bakery. Released just last month, I am the proud mama of this beautiful new cookbook. It was so exciting to create, and even more special to share.
My new book is a compilation of more than 75 recipes for sweet and savory dishes without butter, eggs, or refined sugars and flour. I believe you will really enjoy my unique recipes which offer all the benefits of a plant-based diet, plus a light and healthy dose of flavor.
Of course I think the cookbook is great :-) People who have read the cookbook and enjoy cooking have found the recipes and dishes to be satisfying, and the information about plant-based diets very useful. If you know someone who is exploring a plant-based diet for health or philosophical reasons, this is a great book for you to suggest.
I would love to hear from anyone who has had a chance to read the book or try one of the recipes. I wrote it with all of you in mind, and would welcome all of your comments.
Talk soon,
Fernanda

Top Ten Desserts
Monday was the Top Ten Desserts at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York organized by Dessert Professional Magazine.
I had the best time over there not just because of the amazing sweet creations but also for the the cool crowd that I bumped into.
I love this event because it's not a competition but an honor to the "Top Ten Pastry Chefs" of the year.
The nominee chefs were:
Nathaniel Reid, Norman Love Confections, Naples FL
Jean-Marie Auboine, Jean-Marie Auboine Chocolatier, Las Vegas, NV
Chris Hanmer, The School of Pastry Design, Las Vegas, NV
Sally Camacho, WP24, Los Angeles, CA
Craig Harzewski, Naha, Chicago, IL
Sandro Micheli, Daniel, NYC
Marc Aumont, The Modern, NYC
Christina Tosi, Momofuku Milk Bar, NYC
Damien Herrgott, Bosie Tea Parlor, NYC
Angela Pinkerton, Eleven Madison Park, NYC
My favorite dessert (even if I'm vegan I had to taste) was Sandro Micheli's, (below) simple and perfect!
The great surprise was that we were featured in the cover of the magazine with Hasty Torres (Madame Chocolate), there are cool pictures of www.vegandivasnyc.com sweets and also some fun shots with Daniel Boulud when he devouring our Decadent layered triple cake and was nice enough to let us "take over" his uber kitchen at Daniel!

Thank you Matthew Stevens, Stacie Joy and the Dessert Professional team for the great job and helping spreading the word about Vegan Divas and our delicious guilty-free desserts!

My last trip
Went to Strasburg, in my last trip this month, the capital of the Tarte Flambe. I felt in love for this French city that has a huge German influence. The cannals reminded me of Amsterdam. You can notice the German flair in the arquitecture and on people's behavior. Everyone there speaks German because it was a German territory a couple of decades ago. What I love about this city is that you can do everything walking distance. The most popular way of transportation is bycicle, which is great. Unfortunately there was almost nothing vegan for me, the food was very meat oriented as you can expect in Alsace (French region close to German). It was all about chucrute and "couchon"! I really enjoyed the local white aspargus, the potatoes and the pretzel bread everywhere I went!
I went to visit Pierre Herme factory where he produces macaron and chocolate and ships across Europe. It blowed me away !
Went to this incredible Asacian 3 Stars Restaurant that I recommend Auberge de L'ill. They made a complete 100% vegan meal for me.
A biantot!

Vegan treat basket!
Our client Juny sent us this picture from her lovely son, Abyot, who is lactose intolerant, with his Vegan Divas style-case! She was one of the 200 clients who purchased the vegan treats basket at Gilt City.com! You still can order yours at our website www.vegandivasnyc.com.
Detox Time
Hello! Today we are going to talk about cleaning. Body cleaning. It's great to leave in an exciting city like NYC; but sometimes our body needs a break. The pollution, the computer and cell phone radiation, the cigarette smoke, the chemical pesticides, the processed foods and the alcohol makes our body overloaded and intoxicated.
A good way to start the process is having a good fresh juice. Specially in the warm weather, it will refresh and relieve your body right away!
Here are some recipes that you can easily make at home:
Sprouts surprise:
1 apple, 1/4 lb alfalfa or clove sprout
6 fresh mint leaves, 3 carrots
Lemon essence:
8 carrots, 1 apple, juice of 1 lemon, piece of (1 inch) ginger root (must be peeled and grated before)
Great grapes:
20 green grapes, 10 strawberries, 1 apple, 2 mint branch.
Happy ginger:
2 apples, 2 pears, 1 small piece of ginger root (peeled and grated)
Great for breakfast because activates your body and taste buds
Delicious pineapple:
Half pineapple peeled and sliced, 1 small piece of ginger, 4 mint leaves
(This recipe is also great warm, when is winter)
In your daily routine, be aware of the items that help in the detox process; and the toxic ones;
to detox:
fruit juices and (raw) vegetables
water
sprouts
legumes and seeds
wholewheat grains
avoid:
alcohol
sugar
coffee
dairy products
meat
seafood
cigarette
After trying, let us know if you enjoy the juices! And also send your ideas!
xx
